CREATING ACRYLIC SCULPTURE |
|
|
![]() |
Artist works on the plaster model to refine the details and to create a perfectly smooth surface - extremely important in the production of acrylic sculpture. |
![]() |
A mold is prepared from the plaster model, which is then used for the acrylic casting |
![]() |
The kind of techniques used in the casting determine the special effects wanted as well as the final quality of the acrylic sculpture (i. e. insure the whiteness of the acrylic, insure that no air bubbles are present in the acrylic mass). |

If the artist does not obtain the desired effects on the acrylic castings, he makes changes on the plaster model and repeats the process of preparing a new mold and a new acrylic casting until he obtains the desired effect. More often than not this is what happens. |

Once a satisfactory acrylic casting is obtained (unsatisfactory castings are rejected and result in a waste of acrylic material), the sculpture is sandblasted to give it the satin like surface, which is then polished in parts to obtain the contrast between image and mass. Final work is then done to refme the surface and all details of the sculpture |

CREATING AN ACRYLIC SCULPTURE EDITION IS A TIME - INTENSIVE AND COST - INTENSIVE PROCESS AT THE DEVELOPMENT STAGE. HOWEVER, ONCE A FINAL SATISFACTORY MOLD IS OBTAINED, THE CASTING OF ACRYLIC SCULPTURE REQUIRES RELATIVELY SHORT PRODUCTION TIMES, USUALLY TWO TO THREE WEEKS.S. |
